Parliamentary representative Rachid Hammouni, head of the Progress and Socialism Group in the House of Representatives, addressed a written question to Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, regarding the need to adopt digital solutions to address the phenomenon of brokerage in visa appointment schedules.
During his inquiry, Hammouni explained that broker offers to book visa appointments for travel to the Schengen area, especially those related to France and Spain, are still witnessing a noticeable increase, further exacerbating the situation for Moroccan citizens wishing to obtain these visas for travel to Europe.
He pointed out that this situation requires responsibility from the competent authorities to close the technical and electronic loopholes exploited by visa brokers to seize and manipulate appointments.
Hammouni clarified that there are illegal offers presented by these brokers at very high prices, and some may resort to fraud, which prompted some citizens to file complaints and contact consumer protection associations, especially during the month of Ramadan.
Hammouni emphasized that this situation negatively affects the lives of citizens seeking to travel to Europe for various reasons such as study, treatment, and family visits. Embassies and foreign consulates have a responsibility to take the necessary measures to prevent visa brokers from exploiting appointments and preserve fairness in the appointment process, including using modern technologies such as facial or voice recognition.
Hammouni requested that Bourita reveal the measures that the ministry will take in coordination with foreign embassies and consulates to ensure that appointment techniques and methods are modified to avoid monopolies by visa brokers.
