On Wednesday, elements of the Regional Judicial Police Brigade in the city of Fes arrested five individuals, including three women and a Syrian resident of Morocco, on suspicion of their involvement in a criminal network operating in the field of fraud and scams targeting those seeking to emigrate and human trafficking.
According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security, the criminal modus operandi employed by the suspects involved enticing victims and extorting money from them, either in exchange for false promises of providing them with employment contracts or mediating for them to obtain fictitious employment contracts abroad, in order to facilitate their subsequent exploitation by prostitution networks and international organized crime.
Thanks to the precise information provided by the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance, the security authorities were able to locate the members of this network, carrying out simultaneous raids in both Fes and Essaouira, resulting in the arrest of the suspects and the seizure of a large amount of incriminating evidence.
During these raids, the security authorities seized a number of identification and travel documents belonging to the victims, as well as forged employment contracts and receipts for money transfers suspected of being proceeds from these criminal activities.
The suspects have been placed in police custody pending the outcome of the investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, in order to uncover all the circumstances and details of this case, as well as to identify all the criminal acts attributed to each of them.
