The Moroccan Organization for Human Rights has called on the government to declare the areas most affected by the floods in northern Morocco as disaster zones, in order to activate compensation mechanisms and emergency support for the affected population.
L’Organisation marocaine des droits de l’Homme a appelé le gouvernement à déclarer les zones les plus touchées par les inondations dans le nord du Maroc comme zones sinistrées, afin d’activer les mécanismes d’indemnisation et d’aide d’urgence au profit des populations affectées.

In a statement, the organization said it is closely monitoring, with humanitarian and legal concern, the repercussions of the severe weather conditions that hit several provinces in northern Morocco, particularly the city of Ksar El Kebir, where heavy rainfall caused what were described as exceptional floods, resulting in significant material losses and the evacuation of large numbers of residents to safer areas.
Dans son communiqué, l’organisation a indiqué suivre avec une préoccupation humanitaire et juridique les répercussions des conditions météorologiques extrêmes ayant touché plusieurs provinces du nord du Maroc, en particulier la ville de Ksar El Kebir, où de fortes précipitations ont provoqué des inondations qualifiées d’exceptionnelles, entraînant d’importants dégâts matériels et l’évacuation de nombreux habitants vers des zones plus sûres.

In this context, the organization commended the interventions of local authorities and the various relevant services, including the Royal Armed Forces, Civil Protection, Royal Gendarmerie, and National Security, through both ground and aerial operations, as well as the sheltering of affected people in temporary centers, considering that these measures helped protect lives and limit human losses.
Dans ce contexte, l’organisation a salué les interventions des autorités locales et des différents services concernés, notamment les Forces Armées Royales, la Protection Civile, la Gendarmerie Royale et la Sûreté Nationale, à travers des opérations terrestres et aériennes, ainsi que l’hébergement des sinistrés dans des centres temporaires, estimant que ces mesures ont contribué à la protection des vies et à la limitation des pertes humaines.

The organization affirmed that evacuation operations were carried out in a coordinated and professional manner, calling on citizens to adhere to the instructions of the authorities and monitoring cells in order to avoid potential risks.

In conclusion, the organization called for the preparation of a comprehensive national plan for managing climate risks, including the assessment of water infrastructure, strengthening early warning systems, and enhancing rapid response capacities, to address the future impacts of climate change.
Enfin, l’organisation a appelé à l’élaboration d’un plan national global de gestion des risques climatiques, comprenant l’évaluation des infrastructures hydrauliques, le renforcement des systèmes d’alerte précoce et l’amélioration des capacités d’intervention rapide, afin de faire face aux effets futurs du changement climatique.
