Residents of Al-Qannasra and Nearby Douars in Taounate Protest: A Road Cut Off Every Winter and Promises Awaiting Implementation

The entrance to the city of Tissa, in an area locally known as “Al-Barashma,” witnessed a protest sit-in and march organized by residents of Douar Al-Qannasra and several neighboring douars, in protest against the condition of a rural road whose problems recur every winter, leading to traffic disruptions and the paralysis of residents’ daily activities.

According to information received by the newspaper, the protesters marched peacefully toward the Taounate Provincial Governorate, demanding urgent intervention to lift the isolation affecting their douars. Local authorities intervened to persuade some protesters to return to their villages, while another group continued the march and managed to head toward the governorate headquarters.

Participants in the protest stated that the road in question turns, with the first rainfall, into a real obstacle to residents’ mobility—especially for patients and schoolchildren—while also making access to markets and basic services difficult. They stressed that this situation repeats itself every year without any lasting solutions.

In this context, protesters said that provincial authorities promised to intervene and address the issue by taking measures aimed at ending isolation and improving road infrastructure. These promises were met with cautious welcome by residents, who expressed hope that they would be honored and translated into concrete action on the ground.

According to local actors, this protest comes within a broader context affecting several isolated douars in Taounate Province, which suffer from fragile road infrastructure—calling for a comprehensive approach and the programming of sustainable interventions to guarantee residents’ right to accessibility and basic services.
