Local civil society actors and residents have warned of an imminent collapse threatening Regional Road No. 508, which links Al-Jouzat and Beni Iftah in Taza Province, following damage to the road’s edge caused by recent rainfall. This situation has once again brought to the forefront calls for urgent intervention to avert potential risks to users of this key road axis.
Circulating photos show clear erosion and soil slippage along the roadside, with rainwater flowing through vulnerable points. This has led to a narrowing of the roadway and a heightened level of danger, particularly for light vehicles and rural transport.

In statements to the newspaper, several road users and local residents expressed criticism over the delay in intervention, considering that the current situation reflects a lack of proactive preventive measures, despite the clear signs of road infrastructure deterioration with each rainy season. These voices called on local elected officials and territorial authorities to assume their responsibilities and to accelerate coordination with the relevant technical services to secure the affected section.
The same sources also called for urgent technical intervention by the Ministry of Equipment and Water and its regional services, including a thorough on-site assessment, reinforcement of the road edges, and improved rainwater drainage, alongside scheduling sustainable repairs to ensure traffic safety and maintain connectivity between the two communes.
Observers of local affairs warn that any further delay could lead to a partial or complete road closure if rainfall continues, with ensuing social and economic impacts on residents—underscoring the need for swift action through a participatory approach involving all stakeholders.
