Residents of Tahla Raise Concerns over Irregularities in Electricity Billing Management by the Regional Multi-Service Company

Local civil society actors in the city of Tahla have reported what they described as “irregularities” in the management of electricity services since the Regional Multi-Service Company assumed responsibility for overseeing the sector in recent months.

According to these actors, the company has repeatedly delayed the distribution of monthly electricity consumption bills to customers since it began operations. This situation has reportedly forced many citizens to make repeated trips to inquire about the status of their bills, amid what they describe as a lack of sufficient explanations.

The local actors consider that these delays in delivering bills negatively affect customers’ interests, particularly given the absence of regular meter readings at the beginning of each month. This, they say, has led to the accumulation of unpaid consumption charges.

In this context, the same sources pointed out that the past summer months—especially June, July, and August, which typically see peak electricity consumption—witnessed the buildup of high billing amounts. This situation sparked dissatisfaction among several households and raised questions about the mechanisms used to calculate consumption and manage the service.

Faced with this situation, local actors questioned the role of the Regional Multi-Service Company in ensuring regular monitoring and effective communication with customers, stressing that the management of such a vital public service requires greater transparency and efficiency.

The same actors called on the competent authorities to intervene in order to address these issues, ensure respect for bill distribution deadlines, and prevent the accumulation of outstanding charges, so as to ease unexpected financial burdens on citizens.

The right of reply remains open to the Regional Multi-Service Company to provide its explanations regarding these reported issues, in the interest of informing public opinion.
