Taounate Left Off the Industrial Zones Map… Persistent Unemployment Pushes Youth Toward Migration

A parliamentary advisor from the National Union of Labor in Morocco has submitted a written question to Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade, regarding the absence of an industrial zone in Taounate Province—an initiative that places territorial equity and youth employment at the heart of parliamentary debate.

The question highlights that the province suffers from weak productive economic infrastructure and a lack of properly equipped industrial spaces capable of attracting investment. According to the correspondence, this situation limits the creation of local job opportunities, particularly for young graduates and diploma holders, and contributes to rising unemployment or drives some to migrate in search of alternative prospects.

The parliamentary advisor stressed that establishing an industrial zone in Taounate would be a key lever for implementing the Investment Charter and achieving territorial equity, by directing investment toward less-served provinces, aligning training with labor market needs, and strengthening sustainable local employment.

In this context, the source inquired about the reasons behind the absence—so far—of any planning or creation of an industrial zone in the province, whether technical studies or structuring projects are planned in partnership with relevant government sectors or local authorities, and the concrete measures the Ministry intends to take to integrate Taounate into the national map of industrial zones.

This parliamentary move comes amid national orientations aimed at reducing territorial disparities and stimulating local investment as a driver of economic and social development, enabling rural and semi-urban provinces to benefit from productive projects capable of creating jobs and improving their investment attractiveness.
