A parliamentary group in the House of Representatives has submitted a written question to the Ministry of Equipment and Water regarding the repeated flooding of Oued Azghar in the city of Taza, and the damage it causes to residents and key infrastructure, particularly during periods of rainfall.
The parliamentary question points out that residents of several villages and neighborhoods located near the riverbed repeatedly face the risk of sudden floods, which lead to the isolation of certain areas, disruption of traffic, and material losses, in addition to posing a serious threat to citizens’ safety, amid a lack of adequate preventive infrastructure.
The same source notes that the expansion of the urban area of Taza, combined with the fragility of existing infrastructure and the absence of sufficient drainage channels, exacerbates the severity of these floods—especially during episodes of heavy rainfall—raising questions about the city’s preparedness to cope with such situations.
The parliamentary group asked about the measures already taken or planned to reduce the risks associated with flooding of Oued Azghar, the current status of previously announced flood-protection projects, and the extent to which this issue has been integrated into emergency programs aimed at upgrading Taza’s urban environment.
The question also called for clarification on the timeline for carrying out works related to protecting the city from flooding, as well as the mechanisms to ensure territorial equity among different neighborhoods, in a way that guarantees residents’ safety and limits the recurrence of losses with each rainy season.
