Fes News observed, in rural areas of Taza Province—including Douar Asdour and Douar Al-Borahi under the commune of Meknassa Ash-Sharqia—a deteriorating situation on local access tracks that turned into mud and water puddles following rainfall, making it difficult for residents to move around and connect to basic services.
Residents expressed strong dissatisfaction over what they described as a long-standing “policy of exclusion and marginalization,” arguing that isolation and hardship return with the first rains each season.
Local civil society actors said the situation is “not the first,” but a recurring problem, as many residents find themselves temporarily cut off—especially on routes used daily for schooling, healthcare, and administrative needs.
Information gathered by Fes News from residents indicated that the entrance to Douar Kardoussa is also facing similar difficulties due to the absence of properly developed tracks, with the road turning into a muddy passageway, worsening mobility challenges and increasing local frustration.
Local stakeholders called on the relevant authorities to intervene and upgrade these rural tracks and end isolation through lasting solutions, to prevent the situation from repeating with every rainy season.
Local sources also told Fes News that one of the incidents that reignited residents’ anger was the need for people in Douar Al-Borahi to transport a woman in critical health condition on the back of a donkey for more than four kilometers, through mud and across water channels. This was due to the difficulty of accessing the hamlet after the recent rainfall and the inability of vehicles to enter because the tracks had been cut off. The same sources said the incident illustrates the daily constraints families face when urgent medical care or emergency travel is needed, highlighting the heavy cost of isolation during rainy periods.
