The city of Taza witnessed a protest sit-in on Monday, organized by the local branch of the National Association of Unemployed Graduates in Morocco, in front of the headquarters of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights, amid an ongoing dispute over the employment file of degree holders in the city.
According to a statement issued by the branch, the step came in reaction to what protesters described as a “retreat from promises” previously communicated by local authorities regarding the handling of the case. The statement said that the local dialogue process “did not lead to tangible solutions,” in the words of the same source.
The statement added that prior meetings and communications were characterized—according to the branch—by a policy of “containment rather than solution” and “buying time.” Protesters expressed dissatisfaction with what they view as minimizing the suffering of a social group “at risk of vulnerability.” Slogans raised during the sit-in held local authorities responsible, stressing that employment is a constitutional right rather than a “favor.”
As part of an escalating protest plan, the branch announced an warning protest in front of the Taza Pasha’s Office on Wednesday, 31 December 2025. In its statement, it also voiced concern over what it called “improvised and irresponsible behavior” in managing the file, attributing political and administrative responsibility—according to its wording—to the provincial governor, the city pasha, and the head of the internal affairs department, describing this approach as “disguised administrative violence.”
The same source concluded that “the next phase is the phase of imposing demands, not waiting for promises,” indicating that the protest program will continue until employment-related demands are met.
