Rabat – Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, affirmed that the draft law on the reorganization of the National Press Council includes more than 96 articles, but the controversy is limited to only three articles, which has led to the transformation of discussions into a personal conflict rather than focusing on preserving institutions.
The Minister’s statement came during the discussion of the draft law in the House of Councillors, where he indicated that the legislative text aims to address the issues that have recently emerged, particularly those related to the Ethics and Appeals Committee, while strengthening protection and independence mechanisms.
Bensaid explained that most of the observations submitted by the National Council for Human Rights and the Economic, Social and Environmental Council were incorporated, emphasizing that the draft law seeks to open the door to new elites capable of facing professional challenges, while preserving the principles of freedom and responsibility.
The Minister expressed his regret that the debate had shifted toward defending individuals instead of strengthening institutions, affirming the government’s commitment to ensuring self-regulation that elevates the journalism profession and protects it from unethical practices.
