French police discovered, in the night between Saturday, December 6, and Sunday, December 7, 2025, the body of a young man killed by handgun fire inside a car in the “Le Blosne” neighborhood south of Rennes city in the Ille-et-Vilaine department, according to an announcement by the public prosecutor’s office and a security source.
Police received a notification from local residents reporting hearing gunshots in the neighborhood, prompting their forces to head to the location where they found the body around 1:00 a.m. inside a car, with multiple gunshot wounds, according to the security source.
The public prosecutor’s office confirmed that the victim, identified by his relatives, is “most likely” a 25-year-old young man born in Morocco. It also indicated that the car sustained multiple bullet impacts, with its windows completely “shattered,” and approximately ten shell casings were found around the scene, of approximately 7.65 or 9mm caliber.
Some sources reported that the victim was known to police as being involved in drug trafficking in the area, which is considered a major center for illicit trade in Rennes, particularly around the Italia shopping center.
The prosecutor’s office opened an investigation into aggravated murder and handed it over to the specialized Organized Crime Division (DCOS) in Rennes, to determine the precise circumstances of this incident, which raises questions about the escalation of crimes related to illicit trade in the city.
