Suffering of Residents of Oulad Esrour Douar in Moulay Yacoub Province Due to Dilapidated Road Threatens Popular Protests

Moulay Yacoub – Amid continued neglect, residents of Oulad Esrour douar, part of Ain Chkef commune in Moulay Yacoub province, are suffering from the condition of a main road that serves as the only access point to the douar, exacerbating the difficulties of their daily lives, especially with the approaching winter season.

According to repeated complaints from residents, the dilapidated road is only about one kilometer long, yet it represents the sole artery connecting the douar to the outside world. With increasing rainfall in winter, the road transforms into muddy pools and dangerous slopes, hindering residents’ movement and multiplying their suffering. A local resident, who refused to reveal his name, confirmed that “the road has become a source of daily disasters, as drivers and pedestrians face serious dangers, especially at night or during storms.”

In addition to logistical problems, residents feel marginalized and neglected by the responsible authorities, despite submitting multiple complaints to local and provincial authorities. No concrete measures have been taken so far to repair the road, sparking widespread discontent among locals. The suffering is particularly acute for students who must traverse the road daily to reach their schools, facing transportation difficulties that have delayed their studies and endangered their safety. Worshippers also suffer from the same problem when heading to the mosque, hindering their safe practice of religious rituals.

In a related context, douar residents have announced their intention to organize peaceful protests in the coming days, aimed at conveying their demands to officials and concerned authorities. A local activist said: “We will remain silent no longer, as the road is not merely a passage, but our daily life that is collapsing.” Residents hope that this protest will draw authorities’ attention to conduct urgent repairs before the crisis worsens with the onset of winter.

This problem comes as part of a series of challenges facing rural areas in Moulay Yacoub province, where residents demand improvement of basic infrastructure to ensure a dignified life. The area is expected to witness additional developments in the coming days, with anticipation of the official response to these complaints.
