Marrakesh – The Marrakesh Provincial Security Prefecture inaugurated the security camera monitoring and control room today, Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at the Tourist Police Squad headquarters in the Old City. The opening was attended by the Provincial Security Governor, Mohamed Amchichou, and several senior security officials. This new center represents a qualitative step in enhancing urban security and developing the camera surveillance system in the heart of the historic city, which welcomes millions of tourists annually.
Comprehensive Coverage with State-of-the-Art Technology
The room, which is part of the Security Prefecture’s Command and Coordination Center, comprises 262 cameras strategically distributed across all entry and exit points of the Old City, as well as in squares and archaeological sites. The system includes:
- 176 high-definition fixed cameras.
- 23 360-degree panoramic PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) cameras.
- 45 cameras for automatic facial recognition.
- 18 cameras for vehicle license plate reading (LPR).
The Regional Security Commander and Head of Urban Units Command at the Marrakesh Security Prefecture, Abdelatif Kardad, stated in a declaration to the Maghreb Arab Press Agency (MAP) that this system was designed according to a precise plan supervised by experts and technicians from central services, aiming to achieve comprehensive security coverage and rapid intervention in case of any emergency.
Specialized Training and Integrated Facilities
The staff operating the room underwent intensive training on the latest monitoring and analysis technologies. The facility is also equipped with supporting amenities, including a dedicated meeting room for crisis and emergency management, which enhances the efficiency and speed of the security response.
Boosting the Sense of Security for Residents and Tourists
The opening of this facility is part of the Marrakesh Security Prefecture’s continuous efforts to activate modern technology in the service of public security, especially in the Old City, which sees high tourist traffic throughout the year. The project aims to raise the level of security for both citizens and visitors through meticulous and continuous monitoring of all activities within historic neighborhoods and heritage sites.
