Fez – November 26, 2025
The Idrissi district (Fez Medina) has witnessed in recent weeks an intensive campaign to free public domain from illegal occupation, particularly targeting the phenomenon of “ferrasha” (street vendors) and handcarts (karras) that were obstructing sidewalks and passageways in crowded commercial neighborhoods.
Licensed merchants in the area expressed their great satisfaction with this operation led by local authorities in coordination with district services. One merchant told “Fez News”: “The campaign brought order back to the street… For years the carts were occupying the sidewalks and blocking customers, today the street is clean again and business has improved.”
Local sources confirmed that the campaign included:
- Removal of all carts and illegal obstacles
- Complete liberation of sidewalks for the benefit of pedestrians and merchants
- Warning shop owners not to place their goods outside designated spaces
- Strengthening daily monitoring to prevent the phenomenon from recurring
This operation comes as part of a series of continuous interventions carried out by local authorities in various districts of Fez to enforce respect for the law, improve the city’s aesthetics, and ensure smooth movement and residents’ right to an organized and safe public space.
Residents and merchants of Idrissi hope for the continuity of these efforts and their extension to other commercial neighborhoods in both the old and new city.
