Imouzzer Kandar: Tree in Proximity Sports Field Being Suffocated by Cement.. Citizens Appeal to Local Authorities to Save It Before It Dies

Imouzzer Kandar – November 25, 2025

A widely circulated image on social media platforms has sparked widespread anger among residents of Imouzzer Kandar city (Sefrou Province), showing a large tree inside a proximity sports field whose roots have been completely buried with cement and paving tiles during development works, without leaving any free space around the trunk for ventilation or water and oxygen penetration, posing a real threat to its life.

The photo, taken at night at the new proximity sports field in Imouzzer Kandar, clearly shows how the ground surface was paved right up to the tree trunk, with the cement layer even exceeding the natural soil level, in a serious engineering error considered one of the fatal mistakes for trees in urban projects.

Urgent Appeal to Local Officials:

Citizens and environmental activists have issued an urgent appeal to the following authorities for immediate intervention before it’s too late:

  • Commander of Imouzzer Kandar District
  • President of Imouzzer Kandar Municipal Council
  • Sefrou Pachalik
  • Autonomous Agency for Water, Electricity and Sanitation Distribution in Sefrou
  • Provincial Directorate of Environment in Sefrou
  • Contractor responsible for the sports field works

They demanded:

  1. Removal of cement and paving in a circle of at least two meters around the trunk
  2. Replacement with metal grating or natural soil with wood chips
  3. Deep watering of the tree and addition of organic materials to revive it

“This tree provides shade for children and purifies the air in a tourist city like Imouzzer, and it is shameful to let it die due to a simple mistake that can be corrected in one day,” says one of the residents who shared the photo.

It should be noted that Imouzzer Kandar is known for its stunning nature and green spaces, making such errors completely unacceptable.

We hope that local authorities will respond to this appeal before the tree withers permanently.
