Marrakech: Hammouchi Receives UN Police Chief.. New York Requests Enhanced Partnership with Moroccan Police Expertise

Marrakech – November 25, 2025

The Director General of National Security and National Territory Surveillance, Abdellatif Hammouchi, received this Tuesday morning Mr. Faisal Shahkar, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Rule of Law and Chief of UN Police, on the sidelines of the 93rd session of the INTERPOL General Assembly currently being held in Marrakech (November 24-27, 2025).

During the meeting, which took place at the “Menara Gardens” venue, Mr. Shahkar conveyed a personal message from UN Secretary-General António Guterres, expressing a strong desire to deepen the security partnership with Moroccan National Security services, with the aim of:

  • Strengthening UN police forces at its headquarters in New York,
  • Reinforcing peacekeeping missions in conflict zones around the world,
  • Directly benefiting from Moroccan police expertise known for its high level of qualification, distinguished field experience, and language proficiency that qualifies them to work in multicultural environments.

The UN Police Chief praised the pioneering role played by the Kingdom of Morocco in peacekeeping operations, as Morocco is one of the largest contributors to UN police forces, with continuous deployment in sensitive missions such as the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO), and South Sudan.

This meeting is part of a series of high-level bilateral meetings being held by Mr. Hammouchi with heads of police agencies and international organizations participating in the INTERPOL Assembly in Marrakech, aimed at expanding the international security cooperation network and enhancing joint capabilities in combating transnational crime, terrorism, and organized crime.
