Educational Scandal in Taounate Province: Students of Oulad Ayoub Primary School Study in Cracked Classrooms Without Drinking Water

Taounate – November 24, 2025

Youssef Douazi, a civil society activist and citizen from Oulad Ayoub commune in Taounate province, issued an urgent distress call via social media, calling on national and regional press to make an immediate field visit to Oulad Ayoub Primary School to document the “tragic and catastrophic situation” experienced daily by students and teaching staff, describing it as an “educational scandal” threatening the future of an entire generation.

Douazi confirmed in the text of the appeal, a copy of which the newspaper obtained, that students are studying in:

  • Classrooms with cracked walls threatened with collapse at any moment,
  • Old residential rooms converted into temporary classrooms,
  • Unacceptable health conditions due to the absence of drinking water,
  • A severe shortage in the number of classrooms and teachers, leading to overcrowding that sometimes reaches more than 45 students in a single class.

The appeal directed frank and stern questions to officials:

  • Why has this public school been left in this deplorable state for many years?
  • Who bears actual responsibility for this ongoing neglect?
  • When will the Ministry of National Education, Preschool Education and Sports, the Provincial Directorate in Taounate, and local authorities intervene to save students from these inhumane conditions?
  • Where are the national programs to combat school dropout if students cannot even find water to drink or a safe seat?

Youssef Douazi concluded his appeal by saying: “Students deserve better, and their future is in real danger. We call on the press to be the voice of the marginalized, to convey the suffering of these children to national public opinion, and to hold officials accountable before it’s too late.”

It should be noted that Oulad Ayoub commune is located in a remote mountainous area in Taounate province and has suffered for years from a severe shortage of educational infrastructure, despite repeated promises to rebuild or renovate the school as part of rural development programs and regional plans.
