Netanyahu Threatens Hamas and Hezbollah with New Strikes: “We Will Do Whatever is Necessary” to Prevent Their Strengthening

Jerusalem – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned on Sunday, November 23, 2025, that Israel “will do whatever is necessary” to prevent Hezbollah from strengthening its capabilities in Lebanon and prevent Hamas from doing so in the Gaza Strip, confirming the continuation of strikes against “terrorism on several fronts.”

Netanyahu made this statement during an Israeli cabinet meeting, noting that the Israeli army carried out strikes in Lebanon during the past week, and that they will continue to prevent Hezbollah from regaining its ability to threaten. He added: “This is what we are also doing in the Gaza Strip, where Hamas has not stopped violating the ceasefire since it came into effect, and we are acting accordingly.”

Details of Recent Strikes

Saturday, November 22, 2025, witnessed one of the bloodiest days since the ceasefire brokered by the United States between Israel and Hamas on October 10, 2025, after two years of conflict. The Civil Defense agency in Gaza, affiliated with Hamas authority, reported at least 21 people killed and dozens of others injured as a result of multiple Israeli raids on the Strip. The Israeli side confirms that the strikes came in response to an attack by Hamas and resulted in the killing of five of its prominent cadres.

In Lebanon, the Lebanese Ministry of Health announced the death of one person in an Israeli strike in the south, while the Israeli army announced carrying out new strikes in the south and east. In a joint statement between the Israeli army and the internal security service “Shin Bet,” they confirmed the killing of Alaa Haddada, described as “supply and equipment official” in Hamas’s production command, during one of the raids on Gaza. The statement explained that Haddada was supervising the transfer of weapons from Hamas headquarters to battalions and field commanders.

Netanyahu also claimed that Hamas attempted “several times” to breach the “yellow line” – the border inside Gaza behind which Israeli forces withdrew – to attack Israeli soldiers, emphasizing that Israel “thwarted this with great force and responded at a heavy price.”

Context of Ongoing Escalation

This statement comes amid ongoing tensions around the fragile ceasefire, which is considered one of the most prominent American diplomatic achievements after years of escalation. Netanyahu confirmed that Israel decides its operations independently without the need for external approval, emphasizing that “Israel is responsible for its own security.”

Israel continues to target sites considered affiliated with Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, while Hamas is accused of repeated attempts to violate the agreement. These statements are expected to fuel international controversy about commitment to the truce, especially with the approaching discussions of the second phase of the agreement focusing on disarmament and security measures.
