Fez-Meknes Region Launches Massive Three-Year Development Program Covering Health, Education, and Infrastructure

The Fez-Meknes region is witnessing unprecedented developmental momentum, as regional authorities have begun implementing a comprehensive investment program extending from 2026 to 2028, targeting the strengthening of essential infrastructure and the advancement of social services in several provinces. Official documents related to these programs highlight the scale of major investments that the region is counting on to improve development indicators and raise the quality of life in both urban and rural areas.

Health and Education… At the Forefront of Priorities

In the health sector, the region has set its sights on rebuilding the Provincial Hospital Center in Hajeb at a cost of 500 million dirhams, with new capacity exceeding 120 beds. This project comes within the framework of improving access to healthcare services and reducing pressure on provincial and regional hospitals.

As for the education sector, it receives the largest share of projects, with the anticipated construction of more than 334 new classrooms, in addition to 124 rooms for preschool education, as well as the rehabilitation of a significant number of educational institutions. The region also seeks to establish 32 new educational institutions distributed among primary schools, middle schools, and high schools, while expanding others by adding 225 new classrooms. This program aims to address the deficit recorded in rural areas and improve the quality of learning.

Sports… For a New Generation of Sports Facilities

Meknes is preparing to host a modern sports city with a capacity of 6,000 seats, in a project costing 200 million dirhams. This facility is expected to constitute a qualitative addition to the region’s sports infrastructure, especially given the growing demand for structured spaces.

Industry and Commerce… Enhancing Production and Current Markets

The program features a project to create a new platform for valorizing and marketing agricultural and fishery products at a cost of 160 million dirhams. Projects also include the development of industrial zones and areas for economic activities, in a step aimed at strengthening the local economy and attracting investments.

Culture and Traditional Industries… Continued Support for Creative Fields

On the cultural level, the region is preparing to establish a new cultural center in Boulemane province and develop other cultural facilities, in line with the orientation aimed at enhancing the cultural role within society. In the traditional industries sector, work is underway to create new units for training and traditional crafts, supporting artisans and youth seeking specialized vocational training.

Housing, Roads, and Water… Projects to Improve Quality of Life

The 2026 program includes massive projects related to water and electricity infrastructure, including strengthening the supply of potable water to Taza city from Bab Louta Dam, and developing electrical networks in several communities. Large-scale projects are also anticipated to eliminate flood risks, develop road networks, and improve road safety across various provinces of the region.

Regarding housing, the region has allocated significant appropriations for rehabilitating several neighborhoods suffering from fragility and restructuring inadequate housing, in addition to new programs to support families in difficult situations.

Impact Indicators and Expected Change

These projects reflect a clear regional vision seeking to strengthen social and economic infrastructure and create real transformation in development levels. These programs are expected to contribute to creating new job opportunities in construction, services, and commerce sectors, in addition to supporting spatial balance and reducing disparities between urban and rural communities.
