Youth of Taounate: We no longer need studies or speeches, but a strong will for change… The numbers speak for themselves, and development awaits

Fes News – Regional Development

Taounate – The latest official indicators for Taounate Province reveal a demographic and spatial reality that deserves serious attention, as the province extends over an area of 5,585 km² and includes 49 territorial communes distributed across four municipalities, yet it still suffers from very high rural population concentration.

Key Figures Revealing the Major Challenge:

  • Total population: 610,000 inhabitants
  • Rural population: 514,000 inhabitants, i.e., 84.3% living in rural areas
  • Women: 49.9% of the total population
  • Youth (15-29 years): 26.7%, i.e., more than 163,000 young men and women of productive and creative age

This high percentage of young and rural population makes Taounate Province possess enormous human potential, but at the same time, it places a heavy developmental burden on local and regional officials, especially in the areas of education, health, employment, breaking isolation, and access to drinking water and electricity.

Quick Analysis of the Figures:

  • 8 out of every 10 people in Taounate live in rural areas → significant pressure on road, school, and health infrastructure.
  • A quarter of the population is youth → a golden opportunity for development if directed through real training and employment programs, and a major social risk if left without investment.

Observers concluded that Taounate Province no longer needs additional studies or ceremonial speeches, but rather:

  • Serious and new field leadership
  • Structured and actually funded projects
  • Real investment in people, roads, water, electricity, and vocational education

The population of Taounate deserves better.. and the figures confirm that the possibilities exist; they only lack vision and collective will to transform from a “geographically marginalized” province to a regional development hub.
