Fez News – Industry and Investment
Fez – The Regional Investment Center of the Fez-Meknes region announced on Monday, November 17, 2025, the granting of 93 investment licenses for industrial projects within the Ain Chgag Industrial Hub (PIAC), representing the actual launch of the project, which is considered one of the most prominent milestones in the national industrial acceleration strategy. The expected investment volume exceeds 1.2 billion dirhams (120 billion centimes), with expectations of providing more than 4,000 direct jobs in key sectors: leather and textiles, food industries, and chemicals.
Details of the First Operational Phase
The Ain Chgag Industrial Hub extends over an area of 81 hectares, of which 50 hectares are dedicated to the leather industry (tanning, footwear, and leather products), and 31 hectares for other industries, with a focus on compliance with international environmental standards to reduce pollution. The granting of licenses comes after a project call launched by relevant authorities in June 2024, where 120 applications were submitted, with 93 approved based on economic feasibility and environmental compatibility criteria.
Approved projects include:
- Leather and Textile Industry: 55 projects, with investment exceeding 700 million dirhams, focusing on revitalizing traditional value chains.
- Food Industries: 25 projects, with 300 million dirhams, for processing local products such as olives and fruits.
- Chemistry and Processing Industries: 13 projects, with 200 million dirhams, for producing eco-friendly auxiliary materials.
Economic and Environmental Expectations
This launch is expected to create a regional industrial hub providing 4,000 direct jobs, in addition to thousands of indirect positions, contributing to reducing the region’s unemployment rate which exceeds the national average (around 13%). The hub also enhances exports, with expectations of replacing imports worth 500 million dirhams annually and exports reaching 300 million dirhams, especially toward Europe and Africa.
The hub is managed by the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of the Fez-Meknes region, under the supervision of regional central committees, with commitment to environmental responsibility standards, including industrial waste treatment according to the national 2030 plan.
Project Context: A Step Toward Regional Development
Hub construction was launched in October 2020 with an initial cost of 2.1 billion dirhams, as part of the Industrial Acceleration Plan (PAI 2014-2020), to revive the region’s industrial fabric, especially the leather industry facing environmental and competitiveness challenges. Total investments are expected to reach 5 billion dirhams with completion of subsequent phases, making it a model for sustainable development in Fez-Meknes.
This achievement crowns regional efforts to attract investments, amid anticipation for launching more industrial units in 2026.
