These changes are attributed to factors such as youth migration to cities in search of better opportunities, threatening the future of local development.

Population Evolution: Notable Decline

The population of Sidi Al-Makhfi commune reached 7,915 inhabitants in the 2024 census, compared to 8,645 inhabitants in the 2014 census, registering a decline of approximately 8.4%. This decrease is primarily due to the migration of youth and families to major cities in search of better job and education opportunities, reflecting the challenges of rural development in the region.

Illiteracy and Education Rates: Frightening Numbers

The illiteracy rate among adults (10 years and above) stands at 44.60%, a figure that raises concern about the commune’s future. As for the distribution of the population by educational level, it indicates that 50.19% of the population has no educational level, with females predominating at 57.50% compared to 43.40% for males.
