Under a Royal Directive, Morocco hosts the Commander of “AFRICOM” to strengthen military partnership with the United States

In implementation of the Royal Commands of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Minister Delegate to the Head of Government responsible for National Defense, Mr. Abdel Latif Lyoudi, received on Monday, October 20, 2025, at the headquarters of the department, General Army Daghvin Anderson, Commander of “AFRICOM”(The U.S. Africa Command), who is on an official working visit to the Kingdom of Morocco.

Strengthening Strategic Partnership
During the meeting, both parties expressed satisfaction with the strength of the relations between Morocco and the United States, praising the high level of bilateral military cooperation. They reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing the strategic partnership, embodied by the 2020-2030 Defense Cooperation Roadmap, signed in Rabat on October 2, 2020. They also discussed ways to deepen cooperation in new areas, including encouraging the development of the defense industry in Morocco, according to an official statement from the Royal Armed Forces General Command.

Meeting with the Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces
On the same day, and on the basis of a Royal Order, General Mohamed Braiz, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the Southern Zone, received General Army Daghvin Anderson at the General Command headquarters. The discussion focused on aspects of bilateral military cooperation, emphasizing the modernization and readiness enhancement of the Royal Armed Forces, along with joint exercises. The “African Lion” exercise, held annually, stands out as a prominent model of practical cooperation between Moroccan and American forces.

Regional Security and Defense Industry
Officials exchanged views on the regional situation, emphasizing the importance of strengthening security and stability in the area. The “AFRICOM” commander praised the high professionalism of the Royal Armed Forces and their pivotal role in supporting African military cooperation and promoting principles of security and peace.

The military relations between Morocco and the “United States” draw strength from deep historical ties, reflecting the spirit of the strategic partnership through sharing expertise in defense industry, training, equipment procurement, and military strategy coordination. This cooperation aims to enhance mutual capabilities to face complex security challenges.
