Profile: Who is Khalid Ait Taleb, the New Wali of Fez-Meknes?

His Majesty King Mohammed VI appointed today, Sunday, October 19, 2025, Mr. Khalid Ait Taleb as the new Wali of the Fez-Meknes Region and Governor of Fez Prefecture. This appointment brings a well-known figure in the scientific capital back to the forefront of regional administration, this time through territorial governance.

Mr. Khalid Ait Taleb, born in 1966 in Agadir, is a surgeon and university professor who served as Minister of Health and Social Protection in two consecutive governments.

The new Wali’s professional path has been closely linked to Fez for many years, where he held the position of Director General of the Hassan II University Hospital Center (CHU) since September 13, 2004. He held this post until his appointment as Minister of Health in Saadeddine Othmani’s second government on October 9, 2019.

Subsequently, His Majesty reappointed Ait Taleb to the same ministerial position in Aziz Akhannouch’s government starting October 14, 2021, where he led the ministry during the critical management period of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Professor Ait Taleb holds a Doctorate in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Rabat (under Mohammed V University) and served as a professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Fez. He also held parallel positions, including President of the “Alliance of University Hospital Centers in Morocco” since 2016 and Chair of the Administrative Council of the “Cancer Research Institute.”
