Security Shock in Berrechid: Drug Lord Attacks Gendarmerie Patrol and Escapes Justice!

In a dramatic security incident on the evening of Monday, October 7, 2025, in the Al-Faqra area of Berrechid province, a patrol from the Royal Gendarmerie’s Judicial Center in Berrechid was violently attacked by followers of a drug lord known as “Weld Srghini.” The gendarmes were forced to fire five warning shots into the air to regain control after the suspect resisted arrest and managed to flee, triggering a wide security alert in the region.

According to informed security sources, the patrol had been dispatched based on intelligence reports indicating the presence of “Weld Srghini,” a leader of a gang specializing in drug trafficking who operates criminal activities in the area. During the arrest attempt, the suspect and his followers physically assaulted the security forces with bladed weapons, prompting the gendarmes to use their firearms in a warning manner without causing injuries. Additional details revealed that the perpetrator also stole a rental car used during the operation before escaping into nearby impoverished neighborhoods.

The operation resulted in the arrest of some of the drug lord’s associates, as well as the seizure of quantities of drugs, bladed weapons, and other tools linked to criminal activity. No injuries were reported among the gendarmes or civilians, but the incident raised fears of possible escalation by the gang, leading authorities to increase security patrols and conduct extensive sweeps to capture the fugitive.

This event is part of ongoing intensive efforts by Moroccan authorities to combat drug trafficking networks, with “Weld Srghini” considered a key figure in this criminal sector. While no detailed official security statement has been released yet, investigations continue to uncover the circumstances surrounding the attack and to ensure the safety of the local population. Residents are advised to cooperate with security forces and avoid suspicious areas until operations conclude.
