An important meeting of foreign ministers from Arab and European countries is set to take place in Paris tomorrow, Thursday, to support the activation of the Palestinian state following recent international recognition. This comes amidst ongoing international efforts to end the war in Gaza, now entering its third year.
French diplomatic sources confirmed that the meeting aims to “define collective commitment mechanisms” to activate the Palestinian state and support the Palestinian Authority and security forces. The discussions will also cover international stability, transitional governance in Gaza, reconstruction, humanitarian aid, and disarmament of Hamas.
This meeting coincides with a new round of indirect negotiations in Sharm El-Sheikh between Israel and Hamas, mediated internationally, seeking to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, aligned with U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan to end the conflict.
Participants in the Paris meeting include France, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom, Egypt, Qatar, the UAE, Jordan, Indonesia, Canada, and Turkey, which expressed its intention to actively participate in an international stabilization mission after the ceasefire.
An Italian diplomatic source expressed Italy’s readiness to take part in the post-war political process and Palestinian reconstruction, describing Trump’s plan as “the only viable option that must be supported.” Italy is also considering deploying its Carabinieri forces to train police in Gaza and the West Bank and contributing to Gaza’s medical and health infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the third day of Sharm El-Sheikh talks continues with the presence of Qatar, the U.S., Turkey, and Egypt. Hamas demands the release of key prisoner leaders, detailed Israeli withdrawal maps, the handover of bodies, and permission to enter 400 trucks of aid daily into Gaza.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the coming days are critical for the release of hostages and ending the war. He expressed optimism about a “real opportunity” to reach a lasting peace agreement in Gaza.
