The Administrative Court of Appeal in Fez is scheduled to hold its second session today to review the appeal filed by Abdelwahed Al-Massoudi, former president of the Taza municipal council, regarding the decision to dismiss him from his post last year.
The first hearing was postponed on September 23, 2025, but the case has now been rescheduled for today’s session amid keen local and political public interest due to the sensitivity of the matter and the legal and political debates it has sparked both within and outside the city.
This appeal challenges the ruling issued by the Administrative Court in Fez on October 31, 2024, which ordered the dismissal of Abdelwahed Al-Massoudi, a parliamentarian from the Authenticity and Modernity Party, from his duties as head of the Taza municipal council, following a request submitted by the governor of Taza province in September of the same year.
Previously, the Administrative Court of First Instance in Fez ruled in July that the notification procedures executed by the Taza provincial administration after the dismissal ruling were invalid, considering that those procedures did not comply with the legally required formalities.
This recent ruling has reopened broad discussions about the respect for legal procedures within local administrations and the nature of the relationship between provincial authorities and elected local councils under the principle of free local governance guaranteed by the constitution.
Today’s session is expected to shed light on the court’s stance in this closely watched case, with widespread media and political attention focused on whether the appellate court will uphold the initial dismissal or overturn it.
