A joint operation between the National Security forces and Customs at the Karkarate border crossing, south of Dakhla city, on Saturday evening, October 4, successfully foiled an international drug trafficking attempt and confiscated 53 kilograms and 630 grams of cocaine.
The border control and inspection procedures, involving trained police dogs, led to the discovery of carefully concealed drug shipments hidden in cavities within the metal frame of an international cargo truck carrying foreign license plates. The truck was traveling from a sub-Saharan African country before its driver abandoned it inside the border crossing.
A preliminary investigation has been opened under the supervision of the competent public prosecution to uncover all circumstances surrounding the case, identify all involved suspects, and track the extensions of these criminal acts inside Morocco as well as at the regional and international levels.
This joint operation is part of the intensified and ongoing efforts by various security services at the Karkarate border to combat international drug trafficking and psychoactive substances, as well as to monitor and fight all forms of cross-border crime.
