A group of representatives from the press corps in the town of Tissa, Taounate province, issued a denunciation statement expressing deep concern over the “multiple and repeated” harassment they face while performing their professional duties. This harassment has reached the extent of confiscating their equipment, accompanied by verbal insults from some local authorities and their agents.

It also violates constitutional principles guaranteeing freedom of expression and the right to access information.
The journalists signing the statement stressed that their professional role requires them to convey the truth and inform the public about developments objectively and independently, free from narrow interests. They regarded the targeting of journalists as an infringement on society’s right to free and responsible media. They strongly condemned the “irresponsible” practices that manifest in restricting them while fulfilling their noble mission, considering these actions a serious threat to press freedom and mutual respect values.
The signatories called on the competent authorities to open an urgent and impartial investigation into these violations and to hold those responsible accountable according to the law. They emphasized the necessity of respecting the status of the press as a fourth estate and a key partner in democratic building.
The statement also urged all stakeholders and institutions to treat journalists with the respect and appreciation they deserve and to provide the necessary conditions that guarantee their ability to perform their mission while protecting press freedom and safeguarding citizens’ right to information.
