Rabat, Morocco – In response to what it described as “misinformation” circulating on some websites, the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration issued a clarifying statement regarding its readiness to implement Law 43.22 on alternative penalties.
Full Readiness for Electronic Monitoring
The General Delegation affirmed that it has taken all necessary measures to implement the law’s provisions. It noted that it has provided the necessary equipment and assigned specialized staff to the departments that will monitor the implementation of alternative penalties. These employees have undergone training to be fully prepared to follow up on judicial rulings.
Specifically regarding electronic monitoring, the delegation explained that it has established the national platform on schedule and has provided a sufficient number of electronic bracelets, confirming its complete readiness to oversee the execution of this penalty.
Challenges in Coordinating with Other Sectors
On the other hand, the statement indicated that the implementation of other alternative penalties, which require joint work and coordination with other sectors, has faced some delays. The delegation attributed this to the fact that the law’s effective date coincided with the summer holiday season across various sectors.
The statement explained that the General Delegation has held successive meetings with the relevant sectors to establish frameworks for agreements to govern shared responsibility in executing this type of penalty, but the holiday season hindered immediate implementation.
Accelerating Coordination Efforts
In conclusion, the General Delegation confirmed that it will work in the coming days to accelerate the pace of coordination with all relevant sectors to finalize the implementation of these agreements on the ground. This will allow for progress in fully executing all the provisions of the alternative penalties law.
