Protests in Taounate: Residents Defy Ban, Demand Better Healthcare Services

Taounate, Morocco – In an escalating move, residents of the Taounate province defied a local authorities’ ban on a protest and held a demonstration today, Monday, August 25, 2025, in front of the provincial hospital. The protesters expressed their dissatisfaction with the deteriorating health conditions and demanded an improvement in medical services.

The demonstration, called for by civil and human rights activists, was held to condemn what they described as the hospital’s “catastrophic situation,” characterized by a severe lack of beds and medications, a weak intensive care unit, and insufficient care for patients, particularly pregnant women.

Despite an official administrative decision to ban the protest, crowds of citizens gathered in front of the hospital, asserting their determination to make their voices heard. On-site photos documented the gathering of the protesters, confirming that the ban did not deter them from holding their demonstration on the ground.

This protest is an extension of a series of popular movements in various parts of the province, which express a deep frustration with marginalization and a lack of basic services. This places direct responsibility on officials to find radical solutions to these problems.
