Some Spanish media outlets, led by newspapers like “El Español” and “El Independiente,” are continuing a systematic media campaign aimed at targeting Morocco’s stability and the trust of its citizens in their institutions. This campaign, led by well-known journalists, relies on fabricating and spreading false narratives that lack the most basic professional standards. Its sole objective is to present a distorted image of the kingdom as an entity plagued by imaginary internal conflicts.
“The Intelligence Services Conflict”… A Fictional Narrative
One of the most prominent narratives promoted by these outlets is a so-called “security conflict” between the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance and National Security on one hand, and the General Directorate of Studies and Documents on the other. This story, presented as exclusive truth, is nothing more than a figment of the imagination designed to sow distrust in the Moroccan security system. The reality on the ground refutes these claims entirely, demonstrating the strategic coordination and operational integration between the two agencies. This was clearly evident in the important meeting that brought together Mr. Abdellatif Hammouchi and Mr. Mohamed Yassine Mansouri earlier this month.
Questioning the Pillars of the Monarchy
The campaign did not stop at security institutions but extended to an attempt to undermine the foundations of the political system by promoting a scenario of a “royal succession dispute” between the Crown Prince, His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Hassan, and his uncle, His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid. This malicious thesis deliberately ignores the clear constitutional texts of the Kingdom, which definitively settle the issue of succession to the throne, affirming that the Crown Prince is the sole and legitimate heir. This makes any other talk utterly worthless.
Exploiting Criminal Cases for Political Purposes
These platforms are also exploiting the case of an individual named Mehdi Hajjaoui, who was dismissed from the General Directorate of Studies and Documents in 2010 and faces criminal charges related to fraud and organizing illegal immigration. They are presenting him as a “political victim” and a “persecuted dissident.” This is a desperate attempt to whitewash the image of a person facing legal charges in common law cases, and to exploit his situation to mislead international public opinion and human rights organizations.
It is worth noting that foreign parties, such as former French intelligence officer Claude Moniquet, are behind these moves. He is believed to be working for anti-Morocco factions by using this case to influence decision-making circles in European and American capitals.
In conclusion, despite the varied methods of these media campaigns, their impact remains limited and confined to narrow circles. This is due to the high level of awareness of the Moroccan public and its deep-seated trust in its national institutions, which have consistently proven their ability to protect the country’s stability and counter all external attempts at distortion.
