A massive fire broke out on Tuesday evening in a forested area between the provinces of Tetouan and Chefchaouen. The blaze has consumed vast tracts of vegetation and forest cover, creating a catastrophic scene that has sparked panic and concern among local residents and environmental activists.
“Aayten Al Jarida” has obtained several exclusive videos and photos documenting the initial moments of the fire’s outbreak. The footage shows towering flames engulfing green trees and thick smoke billowing into the region’s sky, forming a dark cloud that has heavily obscured the atmosphere and significantly reduced visibility.
Maximum Alert for Firefighting Teams
Upon receiving reports of the fire, a state of maximum alert was declared for the region’s Civil Protection units. Fire engines were immediately dispatched to the scene. Teams from the provincial directorate of Civil Protection have been making tireless efforts to control the advancing flames and prevent them from spreading to nearby residential areas and dense neighboring forests.
However, the geographical challenges of the rugged terrain, combined with strong winds that fanned the rapid spread of the fire, have made the task nearly impossible for ground crews using conventional methods. This has forced officials to escalate the level of intervention.

As they await a more effective response, all eyes are turned to the sky, hoping for the arrival of Morocco’s specialized “Canadair” firefighting aircraft. These planes are considered the optimal solution for combating fires in rugged, mountainous areas that are difficult for ground crews to access.
There is high hope that these aircraft will be able to drop massive quantities of water directly and accurately onto the heart of the fire to douse the flames and create firebreaks to halt its progress. This is especially critical as fears grow that the fire could spread to even larger forested areas, causing a real environmental disaster that could take years to recover from.
