Large Drug Smuggling Attempt Foiled at Bab Sebta Border Crossing

On the evening of Thursday, July 31, 2025, officers of the Moroccan National Security, in close coordination with customs authorities at the Bab Sebta border post, successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotic pills—specifically 54,000 tablets of the drug “Rivotril”—intended for distribution within the national territory.

The operation led to the arrest of a 34-year-old suspect, believed to be linked to an international network involved in drug and psychotropic substance trafficking.

Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect arrived at the border in a foreign-registered vehicle. A thorough inspection of the car resulted in the discovery of the illicit pills, which were expertly concealed within specially designed compartments inside the vehicle’s structure.

The individual has been placed under judicial investigation by the provincial criminal police unit in Tetouan, under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office. The aim is to further explore the potential extensions of this criminal network and to determine all charges related to the suspect’s activities.

This operation is part of the ongoing and intensified efforts by Moroccan security forces to combat international drug trafficking and to dismantle the sources and routes used in such illicit operations.
