The Israeli military announced on Sunday evening that it detected a new wave of missiles launched by Iran targeting Israeli territory, triggering sirens in several areas across central and northern Israel.
Witnesses reported hearing explosions over the skies of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, according to Reuters. Meanwhile, Iranian state television quoted the Iranian Armed Forces urging Israeli civilians to “avoid vital areas” in anticipation of potential escalation.
This missile barrage came hours after the Israeli army launched a series of airstrikes targeting dozens of ballistic missile sites in western Iran, as part of a military campaign aimed at undermining Iran’s missile capabilities and nuclear ambitions.
Earlier on Sunday, Israel conducted a new wave of airstrikes against multiple targets in the Iranian capital, Tehran, prompting Iran to retaliate by firing missiles from several fronts.
Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee stated that Israel is executing a systematic plan to eliminate the Iranian nuclear threat, along with its ballistic missiles and strategic capabilities.
On the Iranian side, President Masoud Pezeshkian declared that Tehran’s response to Israeli attacks would be “more decisive and severe,” signaling the possibility of further military escalation in the region.
