Official: Dismissal of Governor of Fes-Meknes Region Mouad Jamai and Appointment of Abdelghani Sbbar as Interim Governor

A high-ranking official source confirmed to Fes News this evening that the Ministry of Interior has officially dismissed Mouad Jamai, Governor of the Fes-Meknes region, alongside Farid Chourak, Governor of the Marrakech-Safi region. The decision follows their participation in the ritual slaughter of sacrificial animals during Eid al-Adha, which contradicted the royal directives urging Moroccans to refrain from slaughtering this year due to the difficult conditions facing the national livestock.

According to the same source, Abdelghani Sbbar, the Governor of Meknes Prefecture, has been assigned to temporarily manage the affairs of the Fes-Meknes region until a new governor is appointed in the coming weeks.

Earlier, Fes News exclusively revealed detailed information from inside the mosque, confirming that the Eid sacrifice was not performed by Governor Jamai himself, but by the Eid preacher as part of a symbolic ritual traditionally held by the governorate. After the slaughter, the sacrificial animals were transported on horseback to the Royal Palace in Fes, as has been customary in previous years, and the official delegation was received without any remarks.

Despite earlier assurances from within the governorate this morning denying any official decision, the information available this evening confirms that the dismissal is now effective and official. The Ministry of Interior is expected to announce this in a forthcoming statement.

This decision sends a strong message that adherence to royal directives applies to everyone, including senior territorial officials, and that institutional discipline takes precedence above all else.
