Major Delays in the Rehabilitation and Expansion of Taza’s Eastern Entrance: Sidewalks and Lighting Still Missing After a Year of Work!

Taza –
Despite nearly a year having passed since the launch of rehabilitation and expansion works at the eastern entrance of Taza city, many essential tasks remain incomplete, causing widespread frustration among residents and civil society actors.

Local inhabitants have noticed that the sidewalks, which were supposed to be built as part of the project, have seen little to no progress. The installation of street lighting poles—considered a top priority—has also yet to begin. Additionally, the initial layer of hot asphalt, a fundamental part of the road expansion process, still hasn’t been laid, further worsening the experience for residents and passersby.

Civil society figures consider this prolonged delay unacceptable, especially given the growing need to improve the city’s infrastructure and ensure citizens’ safety. They questioned the reasons behind the sluggish pace of the project, pointing out that significant progress was expected in the early months of implementation.

The ongoing delay raises questions about the effectiveness of coordination among the parties responsible for the project, including the local municipality and the contracted companies. Civil society has called for an official clarification regarding the causes of the delay, emphasizing the need to accelerate the work to prevent further negative consequences.

In the same context, community activists stressed the importance of addressing citizens’ infrastructure needs, particularly in projects that are key to the city’s development and the improvement of living standards.
