Gaza, Palestine – Tensions have escalated over the targeting of humanitarian aid distribution centers in the Gaza Strip. Today, Sunday, Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee published a video showing what he described as “masked individuals attacking Gaza residents at aid distribution centers,” accusing Hamas of being responsible for these actions.
Israeli Army: “Gunmen Firing Towards Residents”
On his “X” account, Adraee wrote that “drone footage reveals: gunmen firing towards Gaza residents on their way to collect humanitarian aid.” He added that “documentation captured by a drone earlier today reveals armed and masked individuals throwing stones and firing towards Gaza Strip residents who are trying to collect humanitarian aid.”
Adraee continued his attack on Hamas, stating: “Hamas is a brutal terrorist organization that is starving the residents of the Gaza Strip and doing everything in its power to prevent the successful distribution of food aid in the Gaza Strip.”
Palestinian Narrative: 30 Killed by Israeli Fire
Conversely, the Palestinian News Agency reported earlier today, Sunday, that at least 30 people were killed and 150 injured by Israeli fire while they were heading to receive aid in the Mawasi Rafah area.
Gaza’s Ministry of Health announced, in a press statement published on its Facebook page, that “emergency, operations, and intensive care departments are experiencing extreme congestion due to the large number of injured.”
Palestinian media outlets had reported last Wednesday a large explosion near an aid distribution center around the “Netzarim” axis in the central Gaza Strip. Sources indicated that Israeli army elements fired at a number of Gaza residents as they were returning from the Netzarim axis after receiving aid.
Chaos and Challenges in Aid Distribution
These developments come amidst a worsening humanitarian crisis in the Strip. Crowds of Palestinians stormed a United Nations warehouse in the Gaza Strip last Wednesday, at a time when aid is flowing into the Strip which is on the verge of famine.
The World Food Program indicated that initial reports suggested two people died and others were injured at the central warehouse in Gaza.
It’s worth noting that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged last Tuesday losing control of an aid distribution center in the Gaza Strip after crowds of Palestinians rushed the center. Netanyahu stated in a speech: “We put together a plan with our American friends for controlled distribution sites, where an American company would distribute food to Palestinian families… There was a temporary loss of control. Fortunately, we regained control.”
