U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff described Hamas’ response to the American ceasefire proposal in Gaza as “completely unacceptable” in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday.
Witkoff wrote: “This response is utterly unacceptable and only sets us backward. Hamas should have accepted the proposal we presented as a basis for negotiations, which could have begun as early as next week.”
The remarks come as international efforts to end the war in Gaza face increasing complications, with Washington continuing to push for the resumption of talks. Hamas has not yet issued an official response to these statements.
