World Boxing Federation Imposes Mandatory Gender Verification Tests on Boxers… Imane Khelif Excluded Pending Examination

The International Boxing Association (IBA) announced on Friday the imposition of mandatory gender verification tests for all boxers participating in its competitions, a move aimed at ensuring fair play according to established standards. The statement indicated that Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, gold medalist in the welterweight division at the Paris Olympics, will not be allowed to compete in any IBA-sanctioned tournaments until she undergoes the required testing.

The IBA clarified in its statement: “Imane Khelif may not be able to compete in the women’s category at the Eindhoven Boxing Cup, scheduled for June 5-10, 2025, or in any other IBA-governed championship until she completes the gender verification test in accordance with the federation’s rules and procedures.”

This decision comes as part of the IBA’s efforts to enforce health and regulatory compliance amid growing debate over eligibility criteria in international sports competitions. Neither Khelif nor Algerian officials have yet commented on the decision.
