Local sources have reported that Morocco’s National Motorway Company has implemented a new toll increase, effective Wednesday, May 28, affecting several highway sections across the country.
Among the impacted routes is the stretch between East Taza and Oued Amlil, where the toll has risen sharply from 8 dirhams to 15 dirhams. Meanwhile, the toll between West Taza and Oued Amlil has been set at 10 dirhams, up from 8 dirhams.
The increase also applies to longer distances, meaning that this adjustment will affect traffic on various major routes. This change adds further financial pressure on citizens, particularly amid the difficult economic conditions many are already facing.
The decision comes at a sensitive time, with the summer season and vacation period approaching—an added burden for families already struggling with rising living costs.
The toll hike has sparked concern among the public, with many fearing it could trigger broader negative effects on the cost of goods and services, further deepening the current cost-of-living crisis.
Many citizens believe this move will intensify financial strain on households, forcing them to deal with additional expenses in an already challenging economic environment.
