Death of Child Due to Snakebite in Taza Exposes Lack of Antivenom in Health Centers: Parliamentary Calls for Immediate Action

A tragic incident occurred in the Ghayatha Al-Gharbia commune, located in the Wadi Amellil district of Taza, when a 12-year-old child passed away after being bitten by a snake. This incident, which deeply shocked the local community, highlighted a severe shortage of antivenom in the health centers of the region. The child was transferred to the Ibn Bajjah Regional Hospital in Taza, where he sadly passed away.

In light of this, Ahmed Al-Abadi, a parliamentary representative for the Progressive Socialist Party, raised a verbal question to the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Amin Al-Tahrawi. He called for the immediate provision of antivenoms for snake and scorpion bites at the health centers in Ghayatha Al-Gharbia and surrounding areas.

Al-Abadi, who also serves as the President of the Keldman Commune, emphasized the urgent need for these health centers to be equipped with the necessary antivenoms, particularly in rural areas, which are more prone to snake and scorpion bites. He also questioned the Minister about the Ministry of Health’s overall approach to combating the risks of venomous bites, both in terms of prevention and treatment, stressing the importance of taking proactive measures to ensure citizens’ safety.

This incident highlights the lack of essential resources in health centers located in remote areas, raising concerns about the ability of the healthcare system to address urgent challenges in such emergencies.
