RS Berkane achieved a historic victory by claiming the CAF Confederation Cup title for the third time in the club’s history, following their draw with hosts Simba SC of Tanzania 1-1 in the second leg of the competition’s final.

With this triumph, RS Berkane has become one of the most successful clubs in the CAF Confederation Cup, having now secured their third title in the competition, following their victories in 2020 and 2022.

The Berkane players demonstrated remarkable ability to handle the pressure imposed by the Tanzanian team, which entered the second leg with an aggressive attacking approach from the opening minutes to compensate for their first-leg defeat.

Simba SC managed to open the scoring in the 17th minute, but RS Berkane’s players remained composed against the successive attacks from the home team, and they could have equalized in the first half.

At the start of the second half, RS Berkane players took control of the match’s tempo, especially after Simba’s midfielder Yusuf Kagoma was sent off following his second yellow card in the 50th minute.

Despite being a man down, the Tanzanian team capitalized on a set piece and managed to score a second goal in the 73rd minute, but the Mauritanian referee disallowed it for offside after consulting VAR.

The Moroccan team successfully maintained balance and controlled the match’s rhythm in the final minutes, before Soumahila Sidibé managed to equalize for the Orange team in stoppage time.

With this victory, RS Berkane confirmed its position as one of the most successful clubs in the CAF Confederation Cup, achieving their third title in the competition and thereby equaling the record for the number of titles alongside Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien.
