Nouakchott: The Criminal Division of the Court of Appeal in Nouakchott issued its verdicts today, Wednesday, against former President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz and a number of former officials, following their conviction on charges related to the “Decade File” case.
The court sentenced former President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz to 15 years of imprisonment. It also handed down two-year prison sentences to Mohamed Salem Ould Ibrahim Vall, known as “El Merkhi,” and Mohamed Ould M’Sabou, the former president’s son-in-law.
Conversely, the court acquitted Mohamed Ould Eddaff of all charges related to the case.
During the same session, the court decided to dissolve the Rahma Foundation, established by the son of the late President Ahmed Ould Abdel Aziz, and issued a ruling to confiscate its assets.
These verdicts come after a lengthy trial that garnered widespread attention in Mauritania and pertains to the former president’s ten-year tenure in office.
