Rabat – His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, President of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary, received three new members of the Council today, Monday, at the Royal Palace in Rabat.
The new members are Mr. Hicham Blawi, whom His Majesty appointed as the Prosecutor General at the Court of Cassation and Head of the Public Prosecution, as well as a member of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary; Mr. Hassan Tarek, who was appointed as a member of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary in his capacity as the Ombudsman of the Kingdom; and Mr. Farid El Bacha, whom His Majesty appointed as a member of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary.
On this occasion, the new members of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary took the oath before His Majesty the King.
The reception took place in the presence of Mr. Mohamed Abdennabaoui, the Delegate President of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary.
The Supreme Council of the Judiciary, chaired by His Majesty the King, is responsible for ensuring the application of the guarantees granted to judges, particularly regarding their independence, appointment, promotion, retirement, and discipline.
The Council also prepares, on its own initiative, reports on the state of the judiciary and the justice system, and issues appropriate recommendations. At the request of His Majesty the King, the Government, or the Parliament, the Council issues detailed opinions on all matters relating to justice, while respecting the principle of the separation of powers.
In accordance with the provisions of Article 115 of the Constitution, the Supreme Council of the Judiciary is composed of the First President of the Court of Cassation as Delegate President, the Prosecutor General at the Court of Cassation, the President of the First Chamber of the Court of Cassation, four representatives of judges of the Courts of Appeal elected by these judges from among themselves, and six representatives of judges of the Courts of First Instance elected by these judges from among themselves.
The Council also includes the Ombudsman, the President of the National Human Rights Council, and five individuals appointed by His Majesty the King, recognized for their competence, impartiality, integrity, and distinguished contribution to the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law.
