Pakistan Warns of Nuclear War Risk Following Deadly Indian Airstrikes

Pakistan’s Defense Minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, has issued a stark warning about the possibility of a nuclear conflict with India, following deadly Indian airstrikes on Pakistani territory that resulted in dozens of casualties.

Speaking to Geo News on Wednesday, Asif said, “The risk of a nuclear war between the two countries is real, especially if India imposes an all-out war in the region.” He added that “New Delhi would bear dire consequences if it pushes Islamabad toward such a catastrophic scenario.”

The escalation comes after the Indian military launched a large-scale operation late Tuesday, named “Operation Sindoor,” targeting nine locations it claimed were “terrorist infrastructures” in Pakistan and Azad Kashmir, the Pakistan-administered region of disputed Kashmir.

The Pakistani government, however, denied the Indian claims, asserting that six civilian areas were struck in the air raids, leaving 26 people dead and 46 injured, according to initial reports.

In retaliation, the Pakistani army claimed to have downed five Indian fighter jets, according to military sources cited by Geo News.

This spike in hostilities follows a bloody incident on April 22, in which gunmen opened fire on a group of tourists in Pahalgam, located in the Indian-administered region of Jammu and Kashmir. That attack killed 26 people and injured several others.

Tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors have reached a dangerous level, with regional and international observers expressing concern over the rapidly deteriorating security situation.
