Local sources report that the ongoing sit-in by a group of unemployed graduates affiliated with the National Association of Unemployed University Graduates in Morocco continues outside the municipal council headquarters in the town of Ouled Baha Mohammed (Taounate Province). The protest has now entered its second week, with hunger strikers on their 13th day without food, raising serious concerns about their deteriorating health as they demand stable employment that preserves their dignity and social rights.
In a statement, the Federation of the Democratic Left expressed deep concern over what it described as the “critical situation” facing the protestors. It criticized the authorities for responding with “repression, arrests, and legal action” instead of opening genuine dialogue or addressing the demands.
The political organization held the Moroccan state, in all its local and regional representations, accountable for any further decline in the hunger strikers’ health. It called for urgent intervention and a responsible dialogue with representatives of the association to find solutions that uphold dignity and the right to work.
The Federation also reiterated its support for the protestors’ “legitimate and just” demands and called for the immediate release of the detained members of the National Association of Unemployed Graduates from the local chapter, as well as all political detainees and prisoners of conscience and social movements across the country.
