Public Prosecution in Khénifra Reopens Investigation into Assault on Teacher and Deepens Probe into Incident

The Public Prosecution Office in Khénifra decided on Monday to reopen the investigation into the case of a primary school teacher, in order to complete the preliminary inquiries. The prosecution also ordered a deeper investigation into the details of the incident, with all parties involved being summoned for questioning, including school staff, the school principal, the teacher concerned, as well as her mother and sister.

The case dates back to an incident in which the teacher and her mother were physically assaulted in the commune of Sebt Aït Rahhou in the Khénifra province. At the time, the teacher and her mother were on a mission to fetch water from the boarding section of the school where she works. In media statements, the teacher described the incident as “brutal,” claiming she sustained serious injuries, while her mother suffered a broken arm.

However, the testimony of the school’s guard changed the direction of the case. He denied that the assault took place in an isolated location or that it was carried out by a group of people, as had been previously circulated. He explained that the incident occurred inside the boarding section when the teacher went to fetch water. The cook asked her to return later due to a water tank delay, which led to an argument that unexpectedly escalated. According to him, the teacher fell to the ground and began screaming.

Upon hearing the screams, the guard rushed to the scene and found the teacher on the ground as her mother and sister arrived, which led to a dispute between them and the cook. The guard tried to intervene to break up the conflict but was surprised when the teacher’s mother also fell next to her daughter, without any direct assault taking place. He added that the school’s surveillance cameras may have captured the incident, which could help reveal the full truth.

It is worth noting that the investigation has yet to find evidence supporting the teacher’s previous claims about attempted break-ins at her home and power outages. The guard also pointed out that the teacher does not live alone in the school’s staff housing but resides with her sister, her sister’s husband, and her mother, making any intrusion or targeting unlikely to go unnoticed.

The investigation remains ongoing, while several aspects of the incident remain unclear, amid anticipation for more details to emerge in the coming days.
