Brussels: The European Union expressed its “concern” on Monday regarding a new Israeli plan involving the “conquest” of the Gaza Strip and called for the “utmost restraint,” according to a spokesperson for its diplomatic service.
“The European Union is concerned about the planned extension of the Israeli forces’ operation in Gaza, which will lead to further casualties and suffering for the Palestinian population. We urge Israel to exercise the utmost restraint,” stated the spokesperson, Anouar El Anouni, during the European Commission’s daily press briefing.
This statement follows media reports indicating the Israeli security cabinet’s approval of a plan to expand military operations in the Gaza Strip, including “conquering” the territory and promoting the idea of “voluntary migration” for the population.
